No. Alaska is one of the few states that does not impose a state income tax on wages or salaries. Employees have federal income tax and FICA (Social Security and Medicare) withheld, plus Alaska's employee unemployment insurance contribution of 0.5% of wages up to $54,200 in 2026.
Alaska's paid sick leave law, approved by voters as Ballot Measure 1 and effective July 1, 2025, requires employers to provide 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Employees can use this leave for their own or a family member's illness, medical appointments, or domestic violence situations.
Alaska's minimum wage is $14.00 per hour, effective July 1, 2026. It rises to $15.00 on July 1, 2027, and then adjusts annually based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Alaska does not allow a tip credit, so tipped employees must also receive the full minimum wage.
An Alaska paystub reflects the state's favorable tax environment: Alaska does not impose a state income tax on wages. Besides federal income tax and FICA, employees see one small state line, the employee share of unemployment insurance (0.5% of wages up to $54,200 in 2026).
Even without state income tax, Alaska employers need accurate paystubs for income verification, loan applications, and compliance with the Alaska paid sick leave law (Ballot Measure 1, effective July 1, 2025), which requires employers to provide paid sick leave and track accruals.
Federal Income Tax • Social Security (6.2%) • Medicare (1.45%) • Paid sick leave balance (Ballot Measure 1, 2024) • Gross and net pay • Pay period dates and employer information
Alaska does not impose a state income tax, so employees keep more of their gross pay. • Alaska's paid sick leave law (effective July 1, 2025) requires 1 hour of paid sick leave per 30 hours worked. • Alaska's minimum wage is $14.00/hr since July 1, 2026, rising to $15.00/hr on July 1, 2027, then adjusting for inflation. • Alaska's Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) is separate from employment income and is not shown on paystubs.
