The formula
Hourly rate = annual salary / (hours per week x paid weeks per year). A full-time year is 2,080 hours. Going the other way, multiply the hourly rate by the same number.
Per-paycheck amounts depend on how often you are paid: 52 weekly checks, 26 biweekly, 24 semimonthly, or 12 monthly. A biweekly check is smaller than a semimonthly one on the same salary, but there are two more of them, which is why two months a year bring a third paycheck. Our guide to gross vs net pay covers what happens to each check after taxes, and the paycheck calculator shows your take-home amount.
Salary to Hourly Calculator FAQs
Divide the annual salary by the hours you are paid for in a year. At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, that is 2,080 hours, so a $60,000 salary works out to $28.85 an hour.
About $24.04 an hour, based on 2,080 paid hours (40 hours a week, 52 weeks). Per paycheck that is $1,923.08 biweekly or $2,083.33 semimonthly, before taxes.
$52,000 a year at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. If you take two unpaid weeks off, it is $50,000.
Use 2,080 if your holidays and vacation are paid, since salaried pay covers them. When comparing a contract or hourly offer that does not pay time off, subtract the unpaid weeks so the comparison is fair.
